Colonia del Sacramento is a city in Uruguay, facing Buenos Aires directly across the Rio de la Plata. The original colony has been conquered and lost several times over by the Spanish and the Portoguese, making this city a sort of cultural oddball in the local panorama.

It is also a splendid place to visit, full of wonderful waterside panoramas and delightful stone roads.
