Die Dunkle Erdhummel Bombus terrestris (LINNAEUS, 1758) baut ihr Nest in der Erde. Die Königin, die oft in Bodennähe zu sehen ist, kann über 2cm groß werden. Die Hummel hat einen Rüssel, den sie zur Kopfunterseite hin umlegen kann. In seinem Kanal verläuft eine dunkelgelbe, fein behaarte Zunge.
