„in a Blue and Purple World“

from the gallery of eloiseart
Description:

At just the right time of evening and in just the right light - when the sky is pregnant with rain that hasn't fallen yet - the trees from the window look blue, purple, and pink, adorning trunks that appear to glow in shades of teal. The leaves take on the glow of the moon and the shadows just behind the trees turn dark shades of green, fading into dark gray.
................................................
From my post at the window, I imagine that I am surely viewing trees from Fantasyland or perhaps Alice will appear at any moment to explain Wonderland to me. How is it that simple trees can become modicums of color and light? Renoir explored that very thing. I wonder if he every truly understood.
................................................ My eyes are opened to the glorious possibilities of light, and once again, I am surprised by the whim of the moonlight and the pictures it can create.
................................................ This painting was created with oil and acrylic. First, the canvas was permeated with oils to create a soft but rich background. After allowing the oils to dry thoroughly, acrylic was added color by color and layer by layer. Each leaf was dabbed into its place with a palette knife, one by one, and only when that layer of color dried could the next layer be added. This technique is sometimes known by its Italian name, Impasto, which is defined as "the process or technique of laying on paint or pigment thickly so that it stands out from a surface." The result, as one might expect, is a unique image with depth and dimension.
