Mt Doom as portrayed in the movie was a computer generated graphic, but this is clearly where the artists derived their inspiration from! Scenes of Frodo's and Sam's journey through Mordor were shot on nearby Whakapapa Ski Field, and around the slopes of Mt Ruapehu, another of the great volcanoes on New Zealand's Central Plateau.

Der Schicksalsberg in den Filmen war Computergeneriert, aber es ist deutlich, wo die Künstler ihre Inspiration hernahmen! Szenen von Frodo and Sams Reise durch Mordor wurden nahebei auf dem Whakapa Ski Field gedreht, sowie an den Hängen von Mt Ruapeho, eines der grossen Vulkane auf dem neuseeländischen Zentralplateau.
