Christina Barrera

Christina Barrera

Christina Barrera just received her BFA in interdisciplinary fine arts and art history from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida where she attended
the Alexander W. Dreyfoos jr. High School of the Arts. Christina’s work deals with, examines, and visualizes the idea of a universal consciousness and energy that connects all beings and entities in the universe. She seeks to dissolve the figure until it is barely discernible from the world she has created for it; giving the work a sense of timelessness, ethereality, and communicating the idea that all things are created through conscious thought and therefore are one and the same. Barrera’s works
incorporate painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, sculpture, photography and textile. She has
received many honors and awards, most notably the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Trust Scholarship, which allowed her to attend MICA on a full tuition, room and board scholarship. Barrera also received scholarship to study abroad in Florence, Italy in the Spring of 2009 and
received one of three Diversity in the Arts Internships at the Walters Art Musuem’s where she worked in the Rare Books and Manuscripts department. Barrera was selected for a nationally touring drawing show Disegno II:Undergraduate Drawing in her sophomore year. She hopes to live and work in Baltimore, and participate in artist residencies before applying to a graduate MFA program and ultimately keeping her studio practice alongside a professorship at an art university.
Christina Barrera currently lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland.

Lia Termatzidou was born in Berlin in 1988. She studied Byzantine Iconography and has graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Art Sciences, specializing in Visual Arts. She divides her artistic expression between different mediums: Painting, photography, video and graphics. She participates in several group exhibitions and organizes artistic workshops in collaboration with other artists. Her subjects, mostly anthropocentric, explore the transforming power of the face - and by extension of individuality, and its association with social adaptability. She lives and works in Greece.

According to the parameters of a biography, this has to have a start, an end, a purpose, some dates, some characters, some influences and a conclusion. However, this is far from been a Biography, it's just a series of art works from a main character: A 25 year old colombian girl who loves to make art.

Caterina was born in Florence (Italy) in 1981, and studied at the University of Bologna. She graduated with a thesis on the work of american photographer Francesca Woodman. During her studies she also exposed her photographic works in some solo and group exhibitions.
After an experience in the digital department at Magnum Photos
Agency in Paris, she currently works as photographer and photographer assistant. Caterina is mainly interested in intimacy, memory and identity, and her photographic works focuse on these themes. She has published her work on “Animals” (Coniglio Editore, Italy) and “Grazia” (Mondadori, Italy). Her project "Palacinche", in collaboration with the comic artist Alessandro Tota, will become a book, to be published in 2012 by Fandango Libri (Italy).
Since September 2006, Caterina lives and works in Paris.

I make paper cuts and small illustrations. I like working with anything, really: plastic, paper, wood, ceramics, cloth and thread. I like skulls and evil kitties.

I find the everyday-life beautiful. My photographs are not trying to be something they are not - they are just honest and pure.

The uneasy coexistence between human populations and the natural world interests me as a photographer. I lived for many years in coastal southern New Jersey, where I was drawn aesthetically to the ordered pilings, decaying buildings and piers, dune fences, structural debris, and kitsch of my seaside town. Deeply influenced by Michael Kenna’s work, I came to favor long exposures in low light as I examined the interaction between wind, waves, salt, and the human footprint. I recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay area, where I look forward to exploring my new environment. I am particularly intrigued by the ambiguous quality of everyday objects encountered at the water’s edge between twilight and dawn, and the tension between the elements and human expectations of permanence and control. I have come to think of the images as "melancholigraphs".
