„Sunken Palace or Basilica Cistern (Istanbul, Turkey)“

from the gallery of Marc Garrido Clotet
Description:

When I get into the cistern I couldn’t believe it, the place is enormous and it’s full of carps and goldfish swimming around the base of the columns. The Yerebatan Saray? (Sunken Palace in Turkish) or Basilica Cistern is the largest covered cistern in Istanbul city; with140m x 70m could hold 80,000 cubic meters of water and is supported by 336 columns. The cistern’s name is quite appropriate; it really beautiful and it looks like a palace.
