„Evening Skies At Silloth“

from the gallery of Ian Lewis
Description:

After a rainy day the clouds are parting over the Solway Firth at Silloth, Cumbria. The East Cote Light Tower stands on the cliff top looking over to the Galloway hills in Scotland. The tower was established in 1841 to aid the ships sailing between Annan and Port Carlisle. In the 1850s it was apparently placed on a short track in order to move it to service the latest navigable channels. Currently it shines a green light over the Silloth approach channel.
