Handmade Type – A Typography Experiment

Handmade Type is a typographic experiment by designer Tien-Min Liao. Liao drew shapes with ink on one or both of her hands, manipulating her gestures into the corresponding shape to signify an upper-case letter. For a low-case letter of the same letter, she changed the gesture/perspective without removing or redrawing the darkened shape on her hands. Check the animated gifs after the jump to see how she does it.

In total Tien-Min Liao created 26 sets of these inked shapes and drew them on her hands. Each set is made to create both an upper-case and a lower-case letter, such as A and a. She also created some italic letters, hand-writing letters and some new typefaces with the same shapes.
