Enlightened Souls by Fabrice Wittner

I think we all remember the devastating earthquake in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand earlier this year, which claimed about 200 hundred people’s life. Photographer Fabrice Wittner wanted to remember those and started a project called “Enlightend Souls”. He started taking portraits in Christchurch’s streets, turned them to real sized stencils before going in the streets again to paint them in a frame. With light shining through the stencils during long exposures, he created beautiful portraits that almost look like holograms.

Fabrice Wittner about his project:

“I wanted to contribute by doing something too, giving what I was able to, some of my time and skills. Giving support to my friends, to the men and women I met, who told me their stories. I liked somehow to show this support and admiration to all those people I don’t even know but who stand strong facing this drama with courage and humility. It’s also important to me not to forget the loss when the main thought is about to rebuild.”
