„The First Quarter Mile“

from the gallery of Ian Lewis
Description:

The regatta course for the Henley Royal Regatta. Along the towpath (aka the Thames Path) at Remenham in Berkshire, is a post marked for a quarter of a mile. The regatta course is 1 mile 550 yards long and starts just downstream from Temple Island (in the background), finishing just downstream of Henley Bridge. Temple Island, seen here, is named after its folly, built as a fishing lodge in 1771. It is now owned by Henley Royal Regatta and is used for corporate events etc.
